Artwork entitled: “Latiff Mohidin”. Creator: Eko Budhi Purwanto.
The painting, which was done using the digital ink block technique, is dominated by natural colours, with thin ink block details and dark colour strokes on certain sides of the face. This painting was done in honour of the Malaysian painter and sculptor Abdul Latiff Mohidin. Latiff Mohidin’s works are mostly expressionist paintings, painted between 1963 and 1969. Latiff studied art in Germany and France. Apart from being a sculptor and painter, Latiff was also a poet. He first became known as a poet when he published his collection of poems entitled: “The Mekong River” published in 1971, which has since been translated into various languages. Like his art, his poetry is a methodological odyssey against ideological systems and structures, offering a lengthy interrogation of the artist’s interior world.
